The Green Smoothie Formula I Actually Use

5 min🍽 Serves 1
I've tried a lot of green smoothies. Most of them taste like a field. This one actually tastes good, and I've been making some version of it basically every morning for two years. It's a formula more than a fixed recipe — swap things based on what you have. ## The Formula **1 cup liquid** + **1 big handful greens** + **1–2 cups frozen fruit** + **1 booster** + **sweetener if needed** ## My Go-To Version - 1 cup unsweetened almond milk (or coconut water) - 2 large handfuls baby spinach - 1 frozen banana - ½ cup frozen mango - 1 tbsp almond butter - ½ tsp vanilla extract ## Method 1. Add the liquid first, then the greens, then everything else. 2. Blend on high for 45–60 seconds until completely smooth. 3. Taste and add a little honey or another piece of fruit if you want it sweeter. 4. Drink immediately or pour into a jar and refrigerate for up to 8 hours. ## Booster Ideas - **Protein:** a scoop of protein powder, Greek yogurt, or hemp seeds - **Healthy fat:** almond butter, avocado, or a tablespoon of chia seeds - **Anti-inflammatory:** a thumb of fresh ginger or ½ tsp turmeric - **Fibre:** a tablespoon of ground flaxseed ## Notes Frozen banana is the key to that creamy, thick texture without needing ice. Peel and freeze overripe bananas in a zip-lock bag and you'll always have them on hand.
