My 45-Minute Zumba + Fitness Hybrid Class Plan
April 22, 2026 · Lili Human

This is the class structure I come back to again and again. It works for beginners, it works for regulars, and it works for the days when you only have yourself and a living room floor.
45 minutes. Six songs. One very sweaty, very happy group of humans.
Here's exactly how it goes.
---
1. Warm-Up (5–7 minutes)
Goal: gradually raise your heart rate and loosen your joints. Keep the choreography simple here — you want people to feel confident early.
Song 1 – Easy Latin Groove
- March in place - Step touch side to side - Shoulder rolls - Hip circles - Arm swings
Song 2 – Light Dance Moves
- Grapevine right and left - Salsa basic step - Body rolls - Light squats with arm reaches
---
2. Dance Cardio (15 minutes)
This is where the magic happens. Three songs, three different vibes.
Song 3 – Salsa / Latin Beat
- Salsa basic - Salsa forward and back - Hip shake - Turn step - Add: fast arms and double time feet
Song 4 – Reggaeton
- Step + squat - Punch arms forward - Side shuffle - Booty shake - Fitness add-on: 8 squat pulses, 8 jump squats (optional)
Song 5 – Merengue
- March hips - Side step with arms - Travel forward and back - Knee lifts - Fitness add-on: fast high knees for 20 seconds
---
3. Fitness Segment (10 minutes)
We switch from dance to strength and toning. Repeat this circuit twice with 30 seconds rest between rounds.
1. Squats — 1 minute Squat + arm reach, squat + hip circle
2. Core — 1 minute Standing oblique crunch, knee to elbow
3. Cardio Burst — 1 minute Jumping jacks OR fast salsa feet
4. Glutes — 1 minute Back lunges, kickbacks
---
4. Final Dance Party (5 minutes)
This is everyone's favourite part. Song 6 — Latin pop or a Zumba favourite.
- Big grapevines - Body rolls - Jump turns - Freestyle
Tell your people: just dance. Energy matters more than perfect choreography. Always.
---
5. Cool Down + Stretch (5 minutes)
Slow song. Breathe. You earned this.
Stretch through: hamstrings, quads, glutes, shoulders, neck. Finish with deep breathing and let the endorphins do their thing.
---
My go-to playlist
These songs work beautifully for a Zumba class:
- Danza Kuduro - Bailando - Mi Gente - Taki Taki - Waka Waka
---
Teaching tips (especially for your first class)
Teach in 8-count patterns — that's the standard Zumba format. Repeat moves 3–4 times before you change them. Use big arm movements to guide people. And smile — your energy is contagious, and it matters more than perfect choreography.
My favourite cues: "Let's go!" "Four more!" "You got it!" "Dance break!"
That last one gets people every time.
